AAUW Tar Heel Branch

Join Now

The AAUW Tar Heel branch formed in the fall of 2008 to provide the benefits of an AAUW community to those in North Carolina who wanted more than an at-large membership in the national organization, but did not choose to join any of the community-based branches. (If you haven’t yet explored the community-based branch option, please see map with NC branch locations or use the locate branch by zip code.)

In addition to the national benefits, branch membership includes:

  • Access to advocacy information about what’s going on in Raleigh, not just DC
  • Opportunity to support AAUW NC mini-grants and to apply for those grants
  • Opportunity to support AAUW NC’s coalition partners
  • All AAUW NC publications
  • Access to the member section of the AAUW NC web site (contact us for the user name/password information)
  • Access to the branch roster through the www.aauw.org Member Services Database
  • Information from nearby community-based branches on special events and projects

If you are ready to join, please use the form in the brochure or complete this two-step online process.

AAUW members may join more than one branch, but pay dues to AAUW (national) and each applicable state dues only once. For 2009-2010, AAUW dues are $49, AAUW NC dues are $11.00, and the Tar Heel Branch dues are $5.00. The branch dues year is July 1 to June 30.

STEP 1: Complete the online information form.

STEP 2: The branch charges $0 for current student affiliates in NC, current representatives of college/university partner institutions in NC, and 50-year members of AAUW. Others are asked to pay dues/fees to the branch in the following amounts. Click the amount to pay online with a credit card or PayPal account. If you prefer to send a check, make it payable to “AAUW Tar Heel Branch” and send it to our contact address.

FOR NEW MEMBERS (special prices available until Feb. 28):

  • $73.00 – (best value membership) for new  members who wish to join now, 1/1/2010 – 6/30/2011*
  • $32.50 – (trial membership) for new members who want a “taste” of AAUW, 1/1/2010 – 6/30/2010*

FOR AAUW at-large (national) MEMBERS:

  • $16.00 – for AAUW members-at-large (including life members) with expiration date in 2011 or later (will change AAUW expiration date, if any, to 6/30; branch membership will expire 6/30/2011)
  • $65.00 – (annual membership) for AAUW members-at-large who wish to renew their membership (expiring 2010) through this branch (will change AAUW expiration date to 6/30/2011)

If you are a recent AAUW member whose membership expired in 2009, you probably want to wait until April 1 to join the branch. Please, contact us for details and to be added to our mailing list as a “guest” until April 1.

FOR STUDENTS

  • $17.00 – for students working on a first associate or baccalaureate degree

However, if you are an undergraduate at one of the AAUW College/University Partners in North Carolina, please contact us about the free e-student affiliate program and a free affiliation with AAUW NC and the branch.

*Dues and fees that include payments to AAUW are partially tax deductible: $46 of the $65/$73 and $16 of the $17 are considered contributions to AAUW, a 501(c)(3) organization as of July 1, 2009. Payments to AAUW NC and to the branch are not tax deductible as charitable contributions, but may be considered professional expenses.

    Nancy,

This is very good and I like the new 18 month idea for paying dues. It really is the best value and I hope many others will join us. You are doing such a good job getting all the information to all of us. Thanks so much.

The “at-large” membership rate above also applies to those who have received a qualifying degree (associates or higher) in the last two years and who have never been AAUW members since you are eligible for a free national membeship (a $49) value. Just fill in the form and request the “give a grad a gift” discount in the comments area.
