First Annual Meeting of Tar Heel Branch

March 27, 2009

Wilmington, NC

The Tar Heel Branch met March 27, 2009 at the AAUWNC State Convention. Queen Thompson, Pat Abell, Doris Bernlohr, Nancy Shoemaker, Sheila Bassoppo-Moyo, Mary Fran Schickedantz, Mary Stephens, and Judy Atkinson were present representing a quorum. Doris called meeting to order and Mary Fran reported the branch has 29 members. Branch dues have been established at $5/yr starting July 1, 2009. One meeting will be held per year.

The Treasurer’s report is posted on line.

The president asked that the following election results be recorded at this annual meeting. A majority of members recently voted online to

  • Approve the proposed bylaws
  • Change the annual branch dues from $0 to $5 beginning July 1, 2009
  • Elect the following officers to lead the branch through June 30, 2010
    • President: Doris Bernlohr
    • Treasurer: Nancy Shoemaker
    • Membership: Mary Fran Schickedantz
    • Board Members: Pat Abell, Judy Atkinson, Birgit Pauli-Haack, Queen Thompson

In an earlier vote, the members had also elected Judy Atkinson as our second delegate to the state convention in Wilmington.

Doris also asked for suggestions for Public Policy Chair. She said that members need to be aware of Bylaws of the branch. She asked members to recruit new members for our branch. There being no other business the meeting was adjourned.

Minutes of 2/11/08 board meeting

The Tar Heel Branch met via conference call on Feb. 11, 2009. Members present were Doris Berlohr, Nancy Shoemaker, Queen Thompson, Judy Atkinson, Bigit Pauli-Haack, and Pat Abell.

The purpose of the meeting was to decide if dues should be charged for the coming year. Doris asked Nancy, as treasurer, to give her assessment of our current financial state and needs for the coming year.

Nancy reported that $150 was collected through donations from board members to cover start up costs.  She recommended no dues for next year.

During discussion other suggestions of $5, $10 and $15 were made. After further discussion, Judy Atkinson moved and Pat Abell seconded and the board voted 3-2 to recommend to the membership that dues be set at $5.00 beginning July 1, for 2009-2010.

Primary members will pay $60 dues + branch dues. The THB has 28 members, 16 primary members and 12 dual members.

Members will be notified about the board recommendation and a ballot for bylaws, officers and dues votes will be sent.
